Enhancing Women’s Participation in Democratic Governance
50-50 Campaign project
Citizen Action for Accountable and Responsive Local Governance
In 2019, PACENET embarked on two simultaneous projects, building upon initiatives initiated in 2018. The primary endeavor, supported by UN Women, fell under the Malawi Electoral Cycle Support Program (MECs). Supported by the Royal Norwegian Embassy through the 50-50 Management Agency, PACENET received funding totaling MK21 million. This collaboration saw PACENET partner with OXFAM to execute initiatives in Thyolo and Mulanje. The overarching objective of this project was to bolster women’s representation in both local and national spheres through the strategic coordination of the 50-50 campaign in Malawi.
With financial support from Tilitonse Fund under the Open Call II PACENET implemented phase Two of ZOTHEKA Project. This phase was born from the first phase of Zotheka project which was funded under the Accelerated Grant. This phase was implemented in the districts of Chiradzulu, Machinga ,Thyolo and also Luchenza Municipality council. This scaled up Zotheka project was implemented to deliver on the following outputs:
